FIKA – Our Global Coffee Break
FIKA is a website/blog setup by Lydia Rand (www.lilirand.tumblr.com) that serves as a platform for us and our friends to share the things that connect us, especially as we stretch to our different corners of the globe in search of learning and purpose. Its an awesome idea, and so far has been successful. The fun lies in tracking how everyones’ interests are evolving, and being able to share meaningfully with those friends that we might not talk to every day even though we’d like to. On top of that there are also some peeps contributing who I don’t know, so I’ll be getting to know them too.
“FIKA, IS A SOCIAL INSTITUTION IN SWEDEN; IT MEANS HAVING A BREAK WITH ONE’S COLLEAGUES, FRIENDS, DATE, OR FAMILY. WE ARE A TIGHT GROUP OF INDIVIDUALS THAT LIFE HAS SCATTERED ACROSS THE WORLD, AND THIS SITE IS WHERE WE RECONNECT, HAVE A CONVERSATION ABOUT OUR LIVES AND SHARE IDEAS. THIS BLOG IS OUR GLOBAL COFFEE BREAK.
“A HUMAN BEING SHOULD BE ABLE TO CHANGE A DIAPER, PLAN AN INVASION, BUTCHER A HOG, CONN A SHIP, DESIGN A BUILDING, WRITE A SONNET, BALANCE ACCOUNTS, BUILD A WALL, SET A BONE, COMFORT THE DYING, TAKE ORDERS, GIVE ORDERS, COOPERATE, ACT ALONE, SOLVE EQUATIONS, ANALYZE A NEW PROBLEM, PITCH MANURE, PROGRAM A COMPUTER, COOK A TASTY MEAL, FIGHT EFFICIENTLY, DIE GALLANTLY. SPECIALIZATION IS FOR [SOME] INSECTS.”
